Early years teaching is constantly changing and evolving and we aim to change and evolve with it. For years a huge emphasis was put on us to plan to themes (most of which the children were not interested in) and to complete endless planning sheets which half the time were not followed and just put huge pressure on us. Happily now we have moved away from this curriculum and now all activities and interests are based on the children and what they love and need in the here and now.
We have been inspired by the work of Anna Ephgraves planning in the moment approach. This means that we, as practitioners, are assessing children at every moment throughout their play and respond straight away to their learning needs. This method of 'teaching' is uniquely suited to each individual child. It means more time spent with the children and less time completing unnecessary planning documents.
